Following the news of delay, shares of Samsung Electronics saw a rise of three percent this Tuesday. Initially, the hearing was scheduled for 20th September, but now the judge has postponed the hearing. The Korean manufacturer was ordered to pay Apple $664 million after ruling it had infringed some of the iPhone patents as claimed, which made its market value drop with a loss of $12 billion. In the court filing, Judge Koh said, “Having considered the scope of Apple’s preliminary injunction request, the additional post-trial motions that the parties have already filed and will file, and the substantial overlap between the analysis required for Apple’s preliminary injunction motion and the parties’ various other post-trial motions, the Court believes consolidation of the briefing and hearing on the post-trial motions is appropriate.” It seems like the jury doesn’t want to rush into any decision. The delay does give Samsung some more time to figure out how to talk into Apple from taking back its request. It has also given lawyers from both the sides some time to sharpen up their case. For now, we are sure that Galaxy S II will be in the US market at least until December!
